Table decor tips… what’s most important!

A place where most of your guest notice how much effort you’ve gone to, is the guest tables. This is where they will experience through their senses, the things that they’ll remember. From the smell of the flowers, the touch of the pressed linens, the feel of the warm glow from the candles, to the site of the breathtaking centrepieces. Here are a few tips to help make the most out of your table decor.

Since the guest tables are duplicated many times through out the ballroom, many of them together make a big statement. The centrepiece is considered the gem of the table, and should be the most important aspect on the table.

Table size is often dictated by your guest numbers. Make sure you have the appropriate size table for the guest seated at it. If you have the luxury, often more smaller tables with less guests at each table can add a element of intimacy that you don’t get with a large table. What you don’t want, is so much space between place settings that your guests will feel removed from one another.

  • Consider the linens on the table as the canvas in which you’ll place the centrepiece. Always make sure the linens “go to the floor”, seeing the table legs is a “no no!” Think about colour and how much of it you want to see in the room. Whether you choose neutral or colourful linens these will make a big impact in the room.
  • Since there are typically many chairs in the room these will make a statement as well. Chair covers often will neutralize the space and give you a clean palate to show off your tables. Chairs come in many different sizes, a good tip is to check the chair cover beforehand to make sure it actually fits the venues chairs. If you love colour add a coloured chair tie to complement the rest of the table. Our crystal chivari chairs somewhat disappear in a room, making the room feel more airy. They are great in those spaces where you may have to pack in the guests.
  • One of the most important aspects of a centrepiece is the scale. Be mindful of the size of the centrepiece to the size of the table. A fully decorated table with a tiny centrepiece just doesn’t cut it! If you don’t want full floral on the table, then load it up with lots of candles.

  • Doing a combination of high and low centrepieces alternating in the room can be a challenge. Getting it right is the key! Doing it solely, to save costs may not be right right choice. It works well when you have many tables, and you are able to create a visual pattern in the room, which breaks up “a sea” of the same look. A room with just a few tables where you can’t see a pattern, looks like you skipped out. When doing it make sure each style is as abundant as the other. Often high centrepieces are more dramatic than the low ones. Low centrepieces will need to be embellished, more floral and/or more candles, so that your guests don’t feel you placed them at a “B” table.
  • Candles are an important feature on your table to add romance and glow. The type and how you use them is maybe even more important. The only place wax taper candles work well, is at home. Even when they say dripless, they still drip! The venues air conditioning system, room drafts, and wind are a candles nightmare! Make sure that each type of candle you use has it’s own container that the wax can drip into. Dripping wax on a rented candelabra, linens or other surfaces from candles can cause a huge unexpected “bill” at the end of your event. Consider floating candles in cylinders, gel votive candles, or protect a pillar candle in a hurricane vase for outdoor events where a breeze may be a factor.
  • One of the most important key to a great table setting for your guest is comfort. Consider what you would feel if you were a guest seated at the table you are designing. Ask yourself: Can I see the other guests across the table? Are the chairs comfortable enough? Do I have enough room to get up and down from the table? Will I be too distracted with what’s on the table to experience the evening?

Stylish Halloween Wedding Ideas

1. Antique Dress  DetailsWhen it comes to your wedding dress, try touches of color and antique embellishments — a dark-hued sash cinched at the waist with an embellished brooch would look chic. Try a black-net birdcage wedding veil, a pair of to-the-wrist gloves, or antique jewelry for even more flair.

2. Victorian UpdosCapture a hairstyle from a bygone era with a slightly mussed victorian style wedding updo. Rather wear your hair down? Have your stylist create a loose half-up style with long, flowing curls pulled back with an antique bejeweled hairpin.

3. Dramatic MakeupKeep your makeup sophisticated with a slightly darker eyeliner or lipstick color. Consider deep plum eyeliner and shadow, or a rich raspberry color for your lips. Tip: To avoid going overboard, choose just one area (eyes or lips) to highlight.

4. Luxe Bridesmaid Dresses
Outfit your maids in rich, deep hues like dark purple, black, or navy. Capelets, crocheted shawls, cameo chokers, or sheer scarves will add just the right hint of enigma to their look.

5. Funky formal wear
For a formal wedding, have your guys don tails or even swallowtail coats (undertaker-style). For more Halloween fun, give them stripe black-and-white or red-and-black socks to wear for the day.

6. All-Black Reception Decor
Use rich, black linens in heavy velvet or pintucked fabrics for the tables. Have black chiavari chairs padded with black seat cushions. Silver chargers and ornate silver goblets along with antique candelabras and black or ivory candles will add to the ambience.

7. Bold Arrangements
For centerpieces, think Black Magic roses, deep red calla lilies, black feathers, branchy accents, and tons of votives. If space allows, consider hanging antique chandeliers over the dance floor and throughout the room and attaching black feather wreaths to the windows or doors.

8. Costume Photo Backdrop
Instead of a photo booth, enlist a friend to take pictures of your guests on a spooky photo set at your reception. Use a velvety curtain for the backdrop and, if resources allow, deck out the set with old furniture and fake spider webs. Include easy-to-wear props for your guests like hats, gloves, and boas.

9. Red Velvet Cake
When it comes to your cake, focus on the flavor by requesting red velvet. Have it frosted with decadent cream cheese frosting decorated with black ribbon bands to coordinate with the rest of your wedding day details.

VINTAGE WEDDING THEME DECOR

Vintage simply means something being old-fashioned, classical, or from another time. Of course, it also means the year a wine's grapes were harvested but in terms of a vintage wedding, a vintage theme encapsulates "from another time". This could be the 1980s (if you're that way inclined) or perhaps Victorian times or the 1920s. Whatever tickles your fancy really.
Choose your favourite era from the past and incorporate any aspects of that era into any part of your wedding. It could be something as simple as wearing your mother's or grandmother's wedding dress, or perhaps using material from an old wedding dress in your newly designed and created designer wedding dress. The bridesmaids could be dressed in a style from the era you've chosen and both yourself and your bridesmaids could wear jewellery and accessories from that era.

A Victorian vintage wedding could incorporate a lot of lace, pearls, gloves and brooches. A 1920's vintage wedding could showcase gorgeous birdcage veils, pillbox hats and headpieces that were popular with the ladies back in the day. A 1950's vintage wedding would be great fun with big full skirts and Mary Jane patent leather shoes (with heels of course). Music and entertainment recreated from the era would give your older guests a feeling of nostalgia and your younger guests a taste of something a bit different.

Vintage Wedding Decorations

The decorations are where your vintage wedding will come to life. A mixture of new and old items will be easier to obtain, rather than all old or all new. New items can still fit in with your vintage wedding, as long as they represent your choosen era. For old items you could raid your parent's or grandparent's belongings as there are bound to be some little treasures you could use to decorate your reception venue. Also visit second hand or antique stores for more elusive pieces that you simply must have to add the finishing touches to your vintage wedding.

Some things you can use in decor to bring the theme are as follow

Candelabras with antique carving & crystals
Lace table overlays.
Gold & ivory colors
Lamp centerpieces
Crystal chandliers
Crystal broach on chair covers .
